Gera Tours

Baroque gardens, a Renaissance town hall, mysterious beer cellars and the birthplace of Otto Dix: Gera surprises with treasures just a short walk apart. Our tours take you to the city's finest sights in one or two days.

All tours start right outside our door on Theaterstraße and are easy to do on foot – the Küchengarten and Orangerie are just a few minutes away, and you reach the old town in about a quarter of an hour. Explore the Otto Dix city in the footsteps of the famous painter, who was born in the Untermhaus district in 1891. Please note: the municipal museums are closed on Mondays – so it is best to plan your museum days from Tuesday to Sunday.

Our immediate neighbour: opened in 1902 and designed by Heinrich Seeling, the theatre combines a Neo-Renaissance façade with Art Nouveau influences. Under one roof it unites a theatre auditorium with 552 seats and a concert hall with 812 seats, plus the Bühne am Park. As part of Theater Altenburg Gera, it is Thuringia's only five-division theatre.

For the 2007 Federal Garden Show the grounds were redesigned and their Baroque character restored – the perfect morning stroll right outside our door.
